Jane's house. I've been cycling past Jane Austin's house for many years and every time I go past I think, "I must paint that view." I've finally got around to it and I've done it in the period style, with a summer feel, and Jane there holding a posy of flowers. I couldn't resist adding a hay wain to give it that extra bit of sunshine. Those of you that are fans of Jane will know that this year will be her 250th birthday so here's a small celebration for one of the enduring authors of English cultural heritage. After visiting the Doge's Palace, you make your way down to the piazetta, stand on the side looking out across the lagoon, past the gondolas and across to the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore. You see Rocco, packing away for the evening, and it reminds you that tomorrow your time is up and the early boat trip to the airport awaits. Diving on the shipwrecks, you come across a friendly octopus, and it seems to be just as curious about you. You signal to your dive buddies to come across and see, but they fail to notice because they are focused on the dolphins tracking a shoal of fish across the reef in anticipation of forcing them all towards the surface. #octopus #dolphins #scuba #shipwreck #reef #marinebiology #diving

Diving on the reef, you notice a beautiful Starfish below and make your way towards it to take a closer look. As you get nearer, a Reef shark passes by and demands your attention. You look directly into her eye and you know, in that moment of connection, that she is allowing you to be in her domain now, but she might change her mind at any point.

This one of Langstone Harbour. Growing up I always disliked the seaweed and vegetation along the edge of the water line because it looked untidy to me and I thought it spoiled the view however I've come to like it because of the contrast the greens give against the blues when you paint these shores. The Arc Angel. I've been working on this one for a while and finally decided to say it's done today. I like the way the darkness and shadows make the blue welding gases seem even brighter. It's probably inspiration from all those old Venetian masters I've been looking at where the figures all seem to emerge into the light from the shadows and the more you look in the dark bits the more you begin to see. Yes, I couldn't resist adding a little mouse because there is actually one living in the workshop. Be careful looking too closely in case you get arc eye!
